Loved her in Written On The Wind and The Last Voyage. Every time I see someone do the mambo I think of her. She did it best ! RIP Dorothy
Today you could be standing next to someone who is trying their best not to fall apart. So whatever you do today, do it with kindness.
Such a talented, beautiful & classy lady. RIP Dorothy... I'll never forget her flirtatious, & seductive scene in the bookstore in The Big Sleep (1946), she really stole the show in that movie.
I was always mesmerized by her dreamy eyes and that beautiful face of hers, she had that very distinctive "movie-star" beauty that I rarely see anymore. RIP, dear Lady.
An interesting if circular bit of trivia: in 1955, actress Ruth Roman went off to Italy to work on a film. While away, she learned that he second husband Mortimer Hall was apparently having an affair with Dorothy. Furious, she filed for divorce and returned to America, aboard the Andrea Doria. After the liner Stockholm collided with the Doria on July 25, 1956, one of the more dramatic rescue stories involved Thure Peterson, who desperately tried to save his wife Martha who had been pinned by wreckage in their ruined cabin. All efforts failed; they even waited hours to get a hydraulic jack sent from one of the rescue ships but it was too late and Martha died. As for Ruth, she was rescued by the liner Ile de France. In 1960, the Ile de France was used as a floating prop for Dorothy's Andrea Doria-inspired story The Last Voyage, which had her pinned by wreckage in a ruined cabin as her husband desperately waited to get a blowtorch from a rescue ship - an episode clearly inspired by the Petersons. Just a strange bit of circular history.
