My mum was a fan of his and that's how I know of his music. I wasn't even aware he was poorly so the news came as a big shock when I heard.

My grandad suffered from the same illness and no one should have to suffer through that much pain. As cliched as it is, at least he is at peace now.

I remember seeing Alvin on stage years ago. I loved his music and meeting him afterwards was great too, a charming man who had time for everyone. He will be missed. R.I.P Alvin x

My mum vaguely knew him in the early 70s. She taught his godchildren. She said he was a lovely man and she still has two little ornaments he bought her as a thank you.

Alvin was a lifelong friend of mine. I saw him recently. He was very poorly but never once complained. He was looking forward to the release of his new album - the first in 30 years. A lovely man and a great friend. Rest in peace.
