No kidding. My boyfriend and I spent last weeked at the mineral springs spa about 3 hours from here. We got a hotel room, a spa treatment each, a tour of the "Tunnels of Moosejaw" (it's a Capone connection thing), and a show at the Casino. The cost? $100 bucks a piece. Had we done it this weekend or monday?? $350 a piece.

Monday will be spent eating homemade nachos and watching movies. The wallet does not need to be hit.

    Question for the ladies

    Hello Ladies,

Question. My wifes cell phone was going south on her in January so I took her to the AT & T store and bought her the latest and the greatest with all of the bells and whistles. It cost me about $400 bucks and we justified the expense by calling it an early Valentines day gift. My question is, I know I can't go home empty handed on Monday but seeing as I technically already bought her a gift, what would you think is appropriate to give her under the circumstances?

    Thanks for the advice.

Something small. A card or some chocolate. Just a trinket to "mark the occasion" so to speak.

For a split second, I pictured the Old Spice guy saying this. Then I realized he wouldn't ask this because he would already know. Still, it gave me a good laugh

Hmm, I'd go with radiojane, but something she likes obviously. Her favorite candy, or a stuffed toy of her favorite animal, for example. I'm not saying go with the V-day cliche, I'm saying when you get her something small, make sure it's something that is to her tastes.

    Valentine Colors

    Happy Valentines to all.
I was amazed how many people had their pinks on this past Sunday.I guess the spirit is alive and well more than ever.
Question for the single guys. Will or would you wear a pink clothing today,or just go with what is in the laundry?LOL!
I always thought red was good, hence my Red Sox and white carnation colored Boston Bruins jersey.I'm not against throwing something a bit flamboyant on.
    I can dig the love.LOL!

Bloody Valentine: Husband 'stabs wife' with wedding cake knife on romantic weekend

A romantic Valentine's weekend ended in bloodshed after a husband stabbed his wife Crystal with their wedding cake knife, police said.

Louis De Jesus, from Connecticut, then turned the knife on himself and stabbed himself eight times.
Police who went to the couple's home found the blood soaked couple waiting for paramedics.

Argument: Louis De Jesus and his wife Crystal were found covered in blood by paramedics at their Connecticut home

DeJesus,22, and his wife are not believed to be newly weds but had been married several years.
According to the Hartford Courant the couple had been celebrating when they got into a domestic argument at their home in Hartford.

Police said the wife was stabbed once with the wedding cake knife before DeJesus repeatedly stabbed himself in the stomach and thigh.
He was rushed to Hartford hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive.
Lt. Ted Stoneburner of the West Hartford Police Department said: 'It wasnâ??t just any knife. It was a wedding cake knife.'
Police were keeping guard on DeJesus who faces charges of assault, threatening, disorderly conduct, unlawful restraint, and other charges.
His wife, who has not been named, was released from hospital.

    Excellent advice!
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Money is _really_ tight this month, so I bought candy for the kids but only a card and some cashews for my husband (hey, he's a diabetic and those are his favorite snack)! I almost cried when my youngest son (he's 8) surprised me with a bouquet of carnations in pink and purple. He went for a "walk" before dinner and came back with them. He'd emptied his piggy bank to buy them for me. Sniffle! He can be a terror but he's also the sweetest boy!

Pakistani Police Arrest Balloon Sellers For "Immorality"

Have a heart: Pakistani police round up Valentine's Day balloon sellers as they launch crackdown on 'immoral' celebrations

They may look like harmless balloons.

But if you are the Pakistani police, such tokens of Valentine's Day affection are a serious matter.
Authorities in capital Islamabad were yesterday rounding up street vendors who were selling red and white heart-shaped balloons.

Say it with a round-up: police in Islamabad made their take on the increasing popularity of Valentine's Day clear. Street vendors with bunches of heart-shaped balloons, top, were detained by officers, bottom

No love allowed: conservative Pakistanis see Valentine's Day as an immoral Western concept

The street vendors appeared to be arrested and were carted off, along with their balloons, in a police truck.

Many in Pakistan are concerned at the increasing popularity of Valentine's Day among young affluent teenagers and students.

Conservatives see the celebration as an immoral Western idea, which should not allowed to be penetrate Pakistani culture.
However young Pakistanis argue that there is nothing wrong with celebrating love, and no threat to the country's Islamic culture from such a celebration.

Some extremist groups threaten violence against those who celebrate Valentine's Day and it is unclear if the street vendors were arrested or carted off for their own protection.

Carted off: the balloons and their sellers are taken away by police. Some extremist groups threaten violence against Pakistanis who celebrate Valentine's Day

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day because I have a lot of bad childhood memories about it. I will celebrate my son's birthday since he was born on that very day. He just turned 23 two days ago. When he was born, I told my husband that there was no way that I was ever going to be able to top this Valentine's Day gift. We both got a chukle out of that.

Back when my ex-wife was still my girlfriend, when I realized that I was really serious about her, but before we were engaged, I gave her a copy of C.S. Lewis' A Grief Observed. It's all about his relationship with his wife Joy, and mainly about his mourning for her after she died of bone cancer at the relatively young age of 45 after just four years of marriage. It is full of very nice sentinments, such as:

She was my daughter and my mother, my pupil and my teacher, my subject and my sovereign; and always, holding all these in solution, my trusty comrade, friend, shipmate, fellow-soldier. My mistress; but at the same time all that any man friend (and I have good ones) has ever been to me. Perhaps more.
My ex-wife-in waiting was appalled ("You're killing me off already and we're not even married yet?") and nearly broke off the relationship right then and there.

    Ah, missed opportunities.

Ah, a woman after my own heart. A lot of Lewis' friends were not at all enthusiastic about him marrying Joy (she already had cancer when he married her). It was widely held to be a marriage of convenience at the time, but judging by what he wrote, he must have loved her very, very much.

I suppose my ex's judgement was also clouded by the fact that we were in an ultra-long-distance relationship at the time, BCE (before cheap e-mail), and had months to go until we would see one another again.

Valentine Memories both old and new.

As the day comes upon us I was wondering if members would like to share memories of yesterday. This is a sweet heart holiday that passes before my eyes with little or nothing to comment on now. But oh the memories. My finest was many decades ago when my then beloved surprised me with not flowers or candy but record albums of my then favorite artist. "Spirit", was my joy, a Topanga Canyon group and odd mixture of talented individuals. Check them out.

Needless to say, like flowers they did not wilt and like candy they are still with me.

Peace and love to all. Happy hearts on fire....

Good- I came into work one morning to see flowers, a stuffed animal and a card on my desk. My husband snuck it to my sister in law who I worked with the night before. It was really sweet!

Bad- My first boyfriend was kind of an asshole. We were on our way to a dance and were exchanging gifts. One of the gifts he got me was a small stuffed dog- it was cute. When we were getting out of the car, it must have stuck to my skirt and fallen out into the street. I didn't notice until we were on our way home later that evening. I cannot believe how pissed he got at me. I felt very bad, but it was an accident. He went on to make my life completely miserable over the next few weeks because of a stupid fucking stuffed dog. Did I mention he got it at McDonalds?
Performing my signature monkey hump move since 10/16/2007...

I try and avoid spending too much for V-Day. I'll get a card and flowers from somewhere reasonable ($10-$20). We were married ON V-Day 2 years ago, so for our anniversary we do something nice, just not ON V-Day. This weekend we are going away for a night, so we'll go to a nice dinner and spend the rest of the time celebrating in our room

Eh.. I hate Valentine's day. I used to get so upset when my husband didn't get me anything. Now, I could care less. It is either that I got used to not getting gifts or I have matured enough to know it's not that important. Either way, I think this day is way overrated. Just my 2 cents.

My mom and step-dad were married on V-day also. It is weird that they don't celebrate it, not cause it is valentine's but because it is their anniversary.
