Delta Dawn Identified After 38 years.

Law enforcement officials in Mississippi say they have solved a mystery nearly 38 years to the day after the body of an infant was found floating in a river.
This morning, Jackson County (Miss.) Sheriff Mike Ezell announced during a press conference the identity of a child found in thick brush along the Escatawpa River, beneath the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Jackson County, Miss., on Dec. 5, 1982. The child and her mother were last seen on Nov 24, 1982 when they left Joplin Mo, with a man to start a new life, they were never seen again. The child has been identified as Alisha Ann Heinrich, her mother is Gwendolyn Clemons.


Her mother is still missing, however in the article it did state someone found a woman's body floating in the water. I wonder if the deceased woman was the child's mother. The suspect has since died.

I read the story. It's so heartbreaking. I wonder if the suspect knew the mother or if he was a stranger. What upsets me about cases like this is that the children don't have a choice. They are just taken along and some don't survive because mommy has to have a man.

Personally Cindy, I think it was the guy they left with. It is heartbreaking and I agree children have no say

If it was the guy they left with, according to police he is now dead so we'll never know which is also sad as they need justice.

True. But there's a bit of closure in knowing who the little girl was.
