    Former Oakland Raider Jack Tatum

Hard-hitting former Raider Jack Tatum dies at 61

COLUMBUS, Ohio â?? He was called the "Assassin."
Jack Tatum was one of the hardest hitters in the NFL, a Pro Bowl safety who intimidated opposing players with bone-jarring tackles that helped make his Oakland Raiders one of toughest teams of its era.

On the internet you can be anything you want.
It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid.

My favorite quote from Tatum: "I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault."

    RIP, Jack.

This guy was vicious, even by NFL standards.
Everyone must die but not everyone has lived

I was listening to an interview with a Boston Sports Writer who knew him on FAN radio yesterday.
They said he reached out repeatedly to Daryl's family after he was injured and eventually to Daryl himself requesting a face to face meeting to express his regret about the injury.
He was continually rebuffed. Daryl was a big deal when I lived in Boston. Sort of a local legend that people were very interested in.
It was a sad deal. I remember a fire in Daryl's highrise and a story made the news that firefighters could not evacuate him because the elevators quit working so some of them stayed with him until the fire was out.
I don;t think Jack was a bad guy. I think he hit hard and played tough. That is the nature of the game. It is big brutal and full of barely contained violence when properly played.
    RIP jack!
    Regards,
    Mary
