May 6, 1968: Rex Carlton, suicide. Writer and producer of B-movies from the 1940s to the 1960s. One of his masterpieces, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, provided fodder for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. Supposedly he killed himself after being unable to reimburse the mob for money he borrowed to finance another picture?

Sorry...if he was born in 1968, he wasn't 53. That scared me for a sec because I was born in the same era...

Good excuse to watch some MST3K. RIP, Sir.

Rex Carlton was his screen name his given name was Carlton B. Owings. He never married nor did he have any children. He was the youngest of three children. At the time of his death his older sister Ruth Owings and his older brother Roger Underwood Owings plus many other family members where shocked by his alleged suicide. His older bother Roger was the one who went out to California to handle his affairs and the pistol, police report and suicide note involved in his death have been passed down to his niece and nephew. Anyone wanting any more info on Rex Carlton can contact me and I will be happy to try to help answer any questions.
