Video of his parents. I was really moved by it, especially when his dad said that people this depressed need to know how much people love them but it might not be enough.

This is a very true statement. I used to be severely depressed, and it did not help for people to tell me they cared. All I could think was "it's just a lie; nobody really cares; they are just saying that cause I'm around." It wasn't enough to know that they cared; I wanted to be shown that people loved me, and even then it wasn't good enough. I had to believe it in my own head for it to be true.

I don't know how anyone else with depression is/acts when they are depressed, this is just my experience dealing with it.

Although suicide is painful and never the answer to anything, I hope he found what he was looking for in it; whether it be peace or fullness or escape. Truly sad situation.

Just reading how Andrew Koenig's parents were frustrated and
walked off "Larry King Live"
Because the show kept pushing the segment back which would
only leave about four minutes at the end of the show.
So the family felt it was not enough time to talk about their Son.

Do they have any idea how long he had been there for?
If he had been out there a week surely his body would have been in a bit of a mess.
Terrible for his parents to see him like that. Was the place far from a known trail of further in hidden away?

according to us news (not sure how creditable they are ). he was hidden form the path.

Growing Pains star Andrew Koenig committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Vancouver's Stanley Park, a source "close to the investigation" tells E! News.

As previously reported, the 41-year-old actor's body was found late Thursday "in a densely wooded area...unseen from the path" by a search party made up of "family and friends." His father, Walter Koenig conceded in a press conference that "my son took his own life."

The insider tells E! News that Koenig's body was found hanging from a tree in the secluded area. "Andrew didn't want to be found," the source notes.

Plans for a funeral or memorial service have not yet been announced.

I just read the post on Perez, saying how he hung himself. That is what I thought initially. Being in a park and all. Poor guy.. Mustve been in so much pain. I hope he has found peace.

Article from perez:

Reports now say former Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig was found hanged from a tree when his lifeless body was discovered in Stanley Park on Thursday.

Sources close to Koenig say the actor "didn't want to be found" and the 11-person search party composed of Andrew's family and friends "dreaded" what they were going to find in the park.

Andrew's mother and father have asked for people to donate to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or U.S. Campaign for Burma in Andrew's honor because Koenig was a man who "cared deeply about others… working on a grass roots level to help those in need."

It's still so sad.

Our thoughts continue to stay with the Koenigs.

I take exception to your statement about Kirk Cameron being a nappy headed Jesus freak. Kirk is find christian man, and he is walking the walk and talking the talk of a follower of Jesus Christ. Those are pretty harsh words about someone you probably don't even know. It's a shame you had to belittle Kirk this way.

Sad....

I am praying for Andrew's parents, family and friends. I am sure they are all in shock over losing Andrew.

I don't want to get too off topic here but I have heard of a few shitty things that Kirk has done in the name of Jesus. For one thing he had an actress on Growing Pains fired because she had posed in Playboy. He sounds like a judgemental A-hole to me. According to her he never even talked to her about it, he went to the producers or whomever and had her fired.

But back to Andrew. I watched the video of his dad and it was so sad. I too figured it was hanging. I also hope he has found peace now, and I hope his family will be able to as well.

I saw that show too, where she trashes Kirk & claims he got her fired. the producers have said it wasn't his fault & they made the decision. Whatever happened, my opinion is that even if he did do that, he was very young & very new to the faith so I can't see that it would have much to do with him now. That girl was a bad actress & she looks like road kill now anyway. She does yard work at the Playboy mansion now doesn't she?

No she's not a gardener, she's a stand-up comedian and was on a comedy circuit that actually came to our town last year.

She's pretty funny and still looks good for being on TV 20 years ago. How good does anyone really look 20 years from their teens?

Sorry, I was kidding about her being a gardener. The Playmates that never did anything else still hang around the mansion & do odd jobs. It was just a joke.

Me too.

Come to think of it, I remember seeing a couple of old gals out there pulling weeds one afternoon. Hmm.

And you know what folks, if you 'take exception' with someone's opinion, please don't quote it and then poo-poo them. Disagreeing is fine. But telling someone their opinion of some star is wrong, isn't cool. They have a right to it just as much as you do.

I'm probably going to end up posting a forum-wide announcement about this and incorporating it into the rules, but please listen:

Quoting a comment that you think is totally out of line or offensive only gives legs to that comment. It doesn't matter if you quote it to say, "Shame on you," or whatever. What you are doing is taking the comment and doubling the number of places it is written. Then someone else sees it and quotes it and now you have the offending comment in three times as many places as it was originally. And so on.

And the more something is repeated, the more it sinks in. So if someone writes, "All Greek men are slimy criminals," and you are a Greek man that takes offense, almost all you are accomplishing by quoting the remark is legitimizing it. And the more ridiculous the original comment, the less helpful it is to quote it.

If someone says an individual deserved a disease and you quote him, to me, as an administrator, you are lending some level of support to his view because you are repeating it and reinforcing it in the minds of readers that otherwise would have just skipped past it or who had a hard enough time reading it in the first place and would rather not see it dredged up again.

Do not quote posts that break forum rules.
Peace baby!

So sad. I truly believe people who suffer from clinical depression really can't control it and when they get into these depths, their own pain is so severe that they can't really think about how it will affect others, because they can't even cope with their own pain and on some level they must feel nobody really cares, even if on another level they know that isn't entirely true. I really believe the chemicals in the brain just distort and when you get down that low, it can be very hard to get out of. I've been there because of things that have happened in my life and I truly feel sorry for what he must have been feeling.

RIP Andrew. And I pray your family gets some peace and will be able to stop blaming themselves.

Corey Haim/Andrew Koenig Connection

Posted Mar 11th 2010 9:00AM by TMZ Staff
In an ironic twist of fate, Corey Haim was fired from a movie in late 2008 because of an alleged drug issue -- a movie that also starred recently deceased actor Andrew Koenig.

Haim was cast as one of the leads in a movie called "DaZe." Executive producer Miller Uwanawich tells TMZ, "Corey's drug problem became too much of a problem" and he was fired as a result.

According to Miller, Corey would show up for table reads and be "all over the place, definitely showing signs of being on drugs."

Miller says he went to Corey's home a few times to try and help him with the apparent drug problem, but was unsuccessful. A.J. Llamas was recast in Corey's role.

It's also the last movie in which Andrew Koenig -- the "Growing Pains" star who committed suicide last month -- appeared.

I don't know how many people know about legacy but it's a newspapers online
obituary where people leave condolence messages for the family.
It is kept online for 1 month and at the end of the month the family has the option to either pay to keep it up for 1 year or they can have a memorial book printed up.
After sending a PM I didn't know if anybody else would be interested but this is Andrew Koenigs page. I hope this works.

By the way if you leave a message it won't show up right away, they go thru a screening process to see if anything is offensive or if you use any copywrited material they'll bump your post.

Was Stabone the surname of the character named Boner? Thats quite disturbing.

2 years ago this past Saturday. As a fellow person who suffers from constant depression. I hope you found the peace you were looking for. Although your loss was painful to your friends and family. I truly sympathize with your stuggles, and what you felt you needed to do.

Synch in the City

I took a drive and randomly ended up in Stanley Park a few days ago.
It's very big and very beautiful and it was a warm (especially for December), sunny day.

Later on at home I was reading an article about a dog attack, clicked on a link called "celebrities who went missing" and read about Andrew.
I was really surprised this sad, sad story ended where I had just spent part of my day, unplanned.

I read that he was found just off the Bridle Path trail?
The Death Hag in me will go down there for a walk. I don't expect to find anything but natural solace. If I take any pictures I'll post them.

I just moved to Vancouver for the winter, ironically I left a toxic relationship because I got to the point where I was lying on the floor contemplating suicide. I felt so alone (I was, I was on a property in the woods outside Prince George) and resources are non-existent to poorly administered up in Highway of Tears country (Prince George, BC).

Through a lot of pain I made my way (literally and figuratively) from a negative place to a positive one. I took a page from the "help yourself, help others book" and started volunteering her in Vancouver. Which is what I had finished doing when I went for a drive and ended up in the park.

My condolences to the family and to Andrew. I too hope he's found the peace he wanted.

I know that in the end, all the help in the world couldn't heal me till I decided to help myself. Obviously no one knows what was in Andrew's head (or anyone else's for that matter) and the world can be an overwhelmingly sad place, but to anyone in this dark state mind, I say, please get out of your head.
Breathe. Deeply. Stop. Admit. Fight for yourself.

I also understand sometimes though, the pain is greater than perspective. And there's an exception to every rule.

Much hope and healing to all. Peace and positive energy to Andrew's family. I'm sure the holidays are still hard.

Stanley Park, Bridle Path

One article mistakenly referred to the trail as the 'bridal path'.

About the trail names
Trail names recall, not only a city once transported by 'horse power' (Bridle Path), but many early pioneer names as well, especially those who were important in Park Board history.
vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park-trails.aspx
The Bridle Path is quite long. You can actually view an eagles nest in a 500 year old Douglas Fir tree from the trail. It's frequently enjoyed by many nature lovers; walkers, hikers, bikers, equestrians.
Stanley Park is worth visiting, in person or on the web.

It smells amazing!!! It's pretty neat that you can be in the middle of deeps woods and rain forest just a few minutes away from a big city.

Stanley Park, Bridle Path

These are photos taken in February 2016 from the Bridle Path beginning at the English Bay entrance.
Hopefully they convey a little idea of why Andrew might have been so drawn to it.
Enjoy.

Stanley Park, Bridle Path

The police searched the park on Tuesday but Andrew was not discovered until after two more days of searching. There are many, many trails that lead off the main trails.

Stanley Park, Bridle Path

Stanley Park is home to some giant old growth trees. Unfortunately many have been removed for various reasons, most often the safety of park visitors.

Although the park has "hours" many people live in it. Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in the world. It faces the common problem of gentrification and international investment.

Stanley Park, Bridle Path

A for Andrew: Many branches, stumps and natural objects appear to be shaped like an A.

These are photos taken in February 2016 from the Bridle Path beginning at the English Bay entrance.
Hopefully they convey a little idea of why Andrew might have been so drawn to it.
Enjoy.

I have a question on the 3rd picture. I see a pool of water near the lower right. How big was the water area? He was found near a marsh area and was not visible from the path itself, also they found him 100 ft into the woods, which is a reason it took several searches to find him. Could that picture where he was found?

Hi MartyMcP,

That area is very marshy. The pool of water isn't that big, but it was connected to other pools of water.
It's to the west just before the intersection of the Bridle Path and the Lake Trail. Beaver Lake is to the east of this area.
I didn't go very deep into this area because of the water pools, so this quite possibly could have been where Andrew was found.
The little plastic cap on the stick looked like a trail marker to me, so I ventured in.
(I really had to pee too)

One of the photos taken of the scene after Andrew was found is an aerial shot. It shows a police van on a road underneath trees. The area where I took that photo is very close to the Lions Gate Bridge Road.
From the trail emergency personnel would have fairly easy access to the road and Andrew might have been thinking about that before he chose a spot.

"I ain't one to gossip but...."

Stanley Park is a popular tourist attraction. A lot of people on bikes and some joggers passed me while I walked along the trail.
For some reason when I got to this marshy area the trees thickened and it got a lot darker. Because of the lack of light and (I'm assuming cold) marshy water this part of the trail also felt significantly colder than any other part. The trail begins to climb right after this section and the trees thin out, so it got brighter and warmer again.

Every time someone passed me it was just another day. But every time I was alone there was a heavy, what I can only describe as, "presence" there. I don't 'not' believe in ghosts but I got what I would definitely call a "feeling" when I was in that area. And only when I was alone there, it seemed like it disappeared when I saw another person.

I was born in Georgetown Guyana in 1978, I was 8 months old when the Jonestown massacre happened. This led me to grow up with an interest in suicide. I have some theories on becoming sensitive to spirits by being that close to the energy that's 'released' when someone leaves this mortal coil. Especially violently, prematurely or unnaturally. My awesome Evol Grandma was a death hag, so we hung out in cemeteries a lot and I think that makes me 'dead friendly'.
(zombies not included) There are a number of other contributing factors I think would also make me in tune to the other side airwaves, or maybe I just see things that aren't there.

There's an excellent chance I will be in Stanley Park again. I'll explore this area a little further. There are a number of benches and at least one shelter I saw that were dedicated in memorial to people.
I was wondering if I would see one for Andrew. It occurred to me later that this may not be a place his family would want memorialized.
I hope death haggery is okay.

Mostly I hope that in death Andrew found peace and happiness.
By all accounts he sounded like a nice soul.

Thanks!

Beautiful pictures, I can see why he chose the area he did. Thank you for posting those.
