    Haw!

I just saw Tor Johnson on Bonanza! It was an episode titled 'San Francisco'.

It's awesome! Tor and Hoss wrestle shirtless (they were the same size). In color too! I'm not aware of any other color Tor footage.

Obviously, I'm a fan of Ed. I also loved Tim Burton's film. I was glad that Burton's film only tried to capture Ed's love of making movies. Not that he was really good at it, but that didn't really matter. "Nightmare of Estacy" is a great book, but I have to admit the Ed's wife Kathy doesn't come off as the sweet innocent that Burton's film portrays (I know, Burton's film isn't factual about a few things). But I found myself despising her as I was reading her interview.

When I found out about Ed's other films from Filmfax Magazine in 1994, I had to get them to add to my Ed's '50's film collection. I'm the proud owner of Love Feast (aka The Photographer), Necromania and Take it out in Trade. Watching Love Feast was difficult to say the least. Seeing how bad Ed looked at this point, let alone in his dirty underwear, was uncomfortable. But of course, I had to watch! Necromania was bascially soft porn. Take it out in Trade is made of outtakes with no sound. But you get a bonus of seeing Ed direct with a blond wig and skirt. Priceless!

I did the same thing. I was surprised at the difference in Kathy as portrayed in the movie and Kathy In Nightmare Of Estacy. She had as many problems as Ed, if not more. Alcohol got them both, apparently.

That mental image is greatly disturbing!!!

I'm off to YouTube to see if I can find it!

I checked YouTube and didn't see it.

More fun facts--I just found out here on Find A Grave that Tor Johnson is buried in the same cemetery as Gene Vincent, Tex Williams and Manson family landlord George Spahn.

Whoa. either that neighborhood at Cahuenga and Yucca has changed or I am an oblivious idiot. Either is possible. I went there many times and never felt fearful at all.

MacArthur park.... now that was another story.

But on to Ed Wood. I just put the Johhny Depp movie on my Amazon wishlist. I rarely purchase Dvds but I think this is one worth getting. i think I only own less than 15 right now, it has to be something pretty special. I think Ed Wood makes the cut.

I also added a box set of some (4?) of his movies, I know Plan 9 and Glenn or Glenda was on there. I will probably buy them myself, I just use my wishlist as a reminder to myself since I never remember what I want when I have extra money.

Definitely buy 'Ed Wood'. It's an awesome, awesome movie. I also have the box set with five movies and it's another good buy. The only film in that set that I really found to be boring and borderline unwatchable is 'Jailbait'. I don't know why but I just couldn't get into it. The rest are comedy gold though!

Unfortunately I feel that it's better to step sway from this project now and I want Jenn and Joey and Sott to do their best for ED. I can always be an consultant. My apologies to Jenn and Joey and Scott.

Ed Wood - one of Johnny Depp's finest movies. What a weird, weird guy Ed was. Eccentric. To the hilt.

I wasn't a fan of Johnny Depp till "Ed Wood" came out. It is on my list of films that I can watch over and over again. Every thing about the film is great IMHO. An excellent cast, the music is perfect and the fact that he filmed it in black and white.

Yes he was Nessa, The group of us that decided to "try" to do this felt he and his Fans deserved a place where people could pay respects to him especially since we found out that people leave flowers and cards by the gas meter at his old apartment where he passed away.

Love the movie " Ed Wood " I have watched interviews with the real Ed Wood, a great guy, a sweet guy. Everybody liked him immediately. I always loved his optimism. Being a worthless, loser, nobody ,but still maintaining that youthful. optimism, that if he keeps trying he will get there. We all need that. And that's why Ed Wood is great.

That's why I love Tim Burton's movie. He focused on Ed's childlike enthusiasm for making movies. No matter how little money he had, he was going to make a great picture. No matter how bad the final product ended up, Ed saw it differently and didn't let it stop him. We all know how Ed ended up, so it was cool that Burton only focused on Ed's love for movies.

I have to admit, I did not care for her at all! Her taped interviews (you can find them at youtube) really grated on my nerves...

Delores Fuller stated that she never heard Bela Lugosi swear. Bela did swear, never in mixed company. Most of Bela's curses were in Hungarian. In the Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein out takes, Bela calls Bobby Barker a "son-of-a-bitch". Bobby Barker was hired by A&C to do practical jokes and keep the company entertained, but when Bobby pulled a gag during an actual take, Bela the professional was outraged.

Myth bust: Karloff and Lugosi got along just fine. They were never enemies. Their kids played together. The studio played up a protracted rivalry that didn't exist for publicity. Lugosi did state that it did not take a lot of talent to play Frankenstein's monster to which Karloff agreed. Once Karloff paid his house off he never played the monster again. Ironically Lugosi, by now completely dominated by his drug addiction, played the Frankenstein monster in one of Universal's monster meets.

Delores Fuller, what a gal, associated with Ed Wood and wrote a couple of Elvis hit songs.

Ed Wood(1924-1978) was a great Director but he had a
    problem with the AL-Key-Haul.

In that he sadly died before his time.

Ed was, in a way, from the same mould as Orson Welles. He didn't have the intellectual gifts that Orson had, but he was no less creative or resourceful. To make a movie with zero budget is in itself an artform.

I think that is what I love the best about ED is that he got the movies made in the first place. He maximized what he had available, both tactile and intellectual, and pushed on regardless.

    I find him inspirational.

Nekkid flopping titties are a great addition to most any film, IMO.

That would be a great name for a band - almost as good as "Pussy Riot."

I have the DVD of Plan Nine; it's got some great interviews with some of the cast and folks who knew Ed and takes you into the studio where it was filmed.
It's a must have for any of you Ed fans.

I loved Wood's optimism and wonder of film making. If he had made it to 1990 someone would surely have given him a sizable budget for a film.

I wish people would stop comparing ed Wood to Orson Welles. Welles had talent, wood was a lowlife drunk transvestite. If wonder and enthusiasm counted for anything we'd all be brilliant and then brilliance would be nothing.

That is unfair. The comparison I made between the two was their ability to use limited resources to get the job done. Apart from that, I believe they had absolutely nothing in common.

And what is wrong with being a lowlife drunk transvestite? We all make choices.

No need to defend yourself Neil. I, for one, understood your comparison. You should be able to state your opinion without being bothered about it.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with a lowlife drunk transvestite. And some can be brilliant.

Just tortured myself and watched Plan 9.

That movie is so bad it almost becomes good

As a big Bela Lugosi fan it's sad to see him like that.

In my estimation it does become good - horrendously good!

Paraphrasing one of my favorite lines from the movie:

"I am be get one of flashlight from patrol car..." - Tor Johnson.

Now; if only we had movies for the other plans; you know; 1 - 8...

I enjoy his movies. I love Glen or Glenda because he tries to make it sentimental but that voice over is just too cheesy.

I'll watch Plan 9 as part of my 31 days of horror next month, too.

I watched Plan 9 the other day on Amazon or Neflix or something; it really is bad. I don't think it would have been any worse had he intentionally tried to make it bad. Lots of fun, tho.
