The ability to have in Avatars Gif format Would be nice.

You should be able to do that now. Give it a try and if it doesn't work, PM me a link to the avatar or attach it in this thread and I will take care of it for you. That's assuming it's within the size limits and otherwise appropriate.

wats th ediff between an avatar or a photo

  5. #5
An avatar appears next to or above each post you make. The profile photo only shows up when someone views your profile or your name on the list of all members. A signature normally appears under each post you make, but you can disable it for any post you want by simply unchecking a box when you are making the post.

So the avatar is the most important in a way, because it comes to be associated with you more than anything else besides your name.

maybe by having a photobucket account then saving the the file as a gif, then selecting that as your avatar would work?

Need help adding GIF to Avatar, or signature

I have a GIF file I want to use as a Signature, or Avatar. I can't figure out to do it. First it tells me the file is too big, so I shrink it to nothing. Then the links don't work.

Can someone help out an old bird ? Make me happy for a little while ?

I've used this site to reduce the size of a GIF before...

    http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/

Go to User CP, Edit Avatar, then click the Use Custom Avatar dot, paste the URL and hit Save Changes... Signature is pretty much the same thing.

    Hope that helps.

What specifically is happening when you try? Like how far in the process do you get before you realize it's not going to work? Or is it more a question of the end result giving you either a static image or not appearing at all?

What is it you want? An animated avatar? Or a static signature banner?

I've never been able to upload an animated avatar that animated on the forum.

But if you are looking for a static signature banner, here's what to do:

Click on Browse. Your file will pop up. Click on the image you want to use. Click on Open, and the image will upload. A code will appear in the create box. Paste your image URL between the bracketed codes.

If you want a link, on the little tool bar, click on the insert link icon, which is the third icon from the right. Press your space bar to delete the highlighted http://. Paste your link url in the box, click OK. Click on Save, and you should be there.

I've got a clip from the movie "Friday". it's about 5 seconds long. I found it somewhere, and saved it to my Photobucket account. I can't get it small enough to put on my signature line, or my avatar.
    Got frustrated, and gave up...

Just in the last MONTH photobucket added an EDIT pictures function which does have a resize. Go into your photo and select edit, then resize and choices come up.

No extra charge or anything, just an upgrade they did.

It needs to be resized in Photoshop, but doing it there will kill the animation, if you don't know what you're doing, and I don't, as far as animation goes. Let me check around and see if I can come up with something for you.

Did that. It was still too big for this place.

Don't worry. I'll see a spaceship in the middle of the night, and be able to do this, plus read about 50 books a day , and plant tomatoes in rotten sil, and they will grow as big as pumpkins...
...Then I'll find out I have a tumor

    Avatar question

Please tell me how to post a picture above my name!

I keep looking at all the wonderful pictures here and would like to post one myself.

    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nellie... go to User CP up at the top of the screen and then to edit avatar. You can browse your own pics and add that way.
I decided as long as I was going to hell, I might as well do it thoroughly. (Edward)

I'm stupid with computers too. You are not alone. The 1st board I was at the admins had to post avi's for me till they finally said I needed to learn myself and gave me extensive instructions in how to do it.

Find a picture. Open it in your picture program. Find "Resize Image". Resize it to 160 x 100 pixels. Save it to your desktop so it will be easy to find. (name it Avatar.jpg) or something easy to find again. Go to to User CP. Then look for Edit Avatar. It will give you a "Browse" option. Look for your small jpg. Double click on it, you'll see it on the line of the browse box. Hit upload. I think you then hit save changes at the bottom. Hopefully that will do it.

I'm the most low-tech person here. I somehow figured it out, so you'll manage it too... good luck.

    I'll help!!

Check this site for thousands of free avatars:

    http://avatars.jurko.net/37/

When you find one you like, put your clicker on the pic you want, right click, and choose Save and save it into My Pictures on your computer.

Come here to your User CP (User Control Panel, on the top left of this screen), then see the left side of the screen in a vertical drop gives you your choices. Choose edit Avatar, you should be able to place your avatar into your profile by using Option 2--click the little Browse button, pick the pic you want to use and from there it'll be in your profile until you change it.

Same with anything else you want to add or change, it's ALL right there in the User CP, listed in that vertical drop down menu.

Good luck, I'll check you out in a bit

    Love,

It could be the size of the picture you are trying to upload. Check the size guidelines for each type of picture you're trying to upload, to make sure they're smaller than what is allowed. The guidelines come up right under where you type in the address of the picture you're trying to upload. Hope this helps!
