Four packs a day??!!
Four packs a day??!!
Sorry, the simple, sad truth is if she's got it in all those places, she has only months, and maybe weeks left. Poor Penny!
Well, seems like she's still holding on. I'm going to search for some recent pics.
Apparently, this pic was taken June 15, 2010
Video clip of Penny from TheExaminer.com a few days ago. She looks good!

When did Penny get so fat? If she is undergoing cancer treatment, it sure isn't affecting her appetite any! It doesn't look like bloat either. I'm surprised to see her looking so ummmm healthy!
I would not have known it was her in that pic.
She does look amazing and here I thought she was at death's door.
Get even better Penny!
Well, I can't speak for everyone. But, if I knew there was a possibility I'd be dead in the next five years, I'd throw my diet to the wind. I would indulge in all the things I enjoy, especially eating and drinking.
Looks like a side effect of the cancer treatment to me.
The Globe has published a last days article for her
In a miraculous return to health, cancer patient PENNY MARSHALL feels and looks great after a whopping 85-pound weight loss.
!
Family insiders told The ENQUIRER that the 67-year-old “Laverne & Shirley” star is a new woman seven months after we reported exclusively that doctors told the star her disease seemed to be in remission.
“It appears she beat cancer, and over the past several months she’s made a determined effort to lose weight– a lot of it put on as a result of her medical battle,” a family source told The ENQUIRER. “She’s shed 85 pounds and looks fit and trim.”
Less than a year ago, the talented actress and director was bloated and had ballooned to more than 225 pounds.
“Penny was on a lot of medications while she went through radiation and chemo, and her weight soared from the treatments,” explained the source.
“After she gained almost 100 pounds, she rarely left the house because she hated the way she looked and was also exhausted.”
Now the director of “Big” and “A League of Their Own” is exercising every day, eating right and getting out of the house. She is also trying to quit smoking.
“She’s hired a new management team and is looking at projects – including acting and directing. Penny is ready to do it all again!”

Good for her!

Love her! Happy to hear some good news.
Weird....it's like a Aretha Franklin weight loss...
"Trying to quit smoking," rinse and repeat.
A brain tumor and chemo wasn't enough of an incentive ...
Good Luck, Laverne!
Bless her. I've always admired how independent she was. She's onry.
This may sound mean, but I'l say it anyway; I can't tell that Penny lost that much weight.
She still looks awful.
You have to see the earlier picture and compare it to more recent.
It is amazing to me how people like Penny, Michael Douglas and Patrick Swayze have access to the best healthcare and they live longer than the normal person with cancer and they still smoke!

In a major bombshell disclosure today – after two years of repeated denials -- actress and filmmaker PENNY MARSHALL finally confirmed our exclusive ENQUIRER reports that she battled brain and lung cancer in 2009!
Without citing The ENQUIRER by name, the shocking confirmation about her life-and-death medical battle came today tucked into a statement issued to Reuters news agency from Marshall’s agent, Dan Strone, announcing the star was releasing a memoir about her rise in Hollywood. The statement said Marshall, 68, has sold the rights to her autobiography, called “My Mother Was Nuts,” directly to Amazon.com Inc., and it said in addition to discussing her former 10-year marriage to fellow director Rob Reiner, and her friendships with John Belushi and Art Garfunkel, the book would also include “her battle with brain and lung cancer in 2009.”
But from the very beginning, it now turns out that Penny’s representatives repeatedly lied to The ENQUIRER. Parkway Productions, repeatedly told The ENQUIRER our reporting was wrong.
While it’s clear now that The ENQUIRER’s accurate reporting was right from the beginning, her reps continued to deny our stories even when we published photos showing her arriving for cancer treatment at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Over the ensuing months, photos showed Marshall at public events “bloated” from medication doctors put her on. Sources also said she lost lots of her hair from treatment.
But in a miracle comeback, we reported in January 2011, that despite the cancer spreading, doctors informed her that she was in remission after finally responding favorably to the chemo and radiation treatments!

Yet more proof that the National Enquirer is right a lot of the time...
A brain tumor, chemo AND lung cancer and she still hadn't quit smoking. Has she quit now?

When I was going thru my own cancer in 2002/2003 I made friends with this girl who I met I think thru some kind of cancer board or something I don't remember.
She was a smoker going thru the exact same type (Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma). We were typing each other about our treatments and she said she was going to quit smoking.
I said aren't you going thru enough stress in your life that you have to go thru nicotine withdrawl?

I have a friend who survived pancreatic cancer and refused to quit smoking while going thru the chemo and radiation and said that if he was going to die - he wasn't going to have a nic-fit in the process!
I also had a friend who survived throat cancer and smoked thru all his treatments and he's still kickin'
My mom, grandmother, and several other relatives died from lung cancer (heavy smokers), so as a result I've never smoked. Must be a helluva jones.
My father's best friend, John, smoked for years and then was diagnosed HIV positive. John never quit smoking for obvious reasons ("I'm dying anyway, so why not?"). However, the "cocktail" (HIV-treatment drugs) did keep him alive for several years, and it was indeed the smoking/cancer that got him in the end (lung cancer & it spread everywhere).
Back to Penny...looks like she's hanging in there, but is she terminally ill, or can she still somehow beat it?

PENNY MARSHALL’s cancer has returned – and spread to her lungs, sources say.
Sadly, doctors have given the 68-year-old “Laverne & Shirley” star just months to live, according to insiders.
.
“Penny is finally confirming her battle with cancer only because she wants her fans to read about it in her own words,” a close source told The ENQUIRER.
“What her agent didn’t say is that Penny’s cancer has returned. Doctors are telling her that it’s Stage 4 and has spread to her lungs – and she may not have more than six months to live.
“Now she’s furiously trying to finish her book, which is due to be published next fall.”
Publishing sources believe Penny’s final chapter could detail her latest setback and renewed battle right up to when she hands in the manuscript.
“Penny is getting chemotherapy treatments at a Los Angeles hospital every other week, and she’s on several medications,” the source revealed.
“A specialist in New York also consults with her physicians in California. The doctors wanted to put her on stronger medications, but Penny refused, calling the meds ‘gnarly.’

That doesn't sound good.
Cancer sucks...
that sucks, I can't imagine the thought of trying to finish something you won't be around to see enjoyed by fans. It's both a selfish and selfless act I think, she can easily just say "fuck it" I'm gonna enjoy the rest of my days and not write shit... but at the same time she probably finds some peace in having a project to do.
I just caught the tail end of a news cast. Did she die?
Last thing I can find about her on CNN is that she is writing an autobiography... that was as of October of this year.

Pals say the beloved comic actress is determined to go out HER way, and she intends to enjoy her vices till the bitter end.
“Penny has accepted the fact that she’s terminally ill, so she wants to live life to the max while she can,” a source reveals.
The ENQUIRER was first to reveal that Penny was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor and a malignant tumor on her liver in late 2009. The disease went into remission after extensive treatment, but Penny learned in October that the disease had spread to her lungs and is now stage 4, giving her just months to live.
With a death sentence hanging over her head, Penny is gorging on her favorite foods and boozing it up, insiders say.
“When she’s hungry, Penny stuffs herself with bagels, pastrami, fettuccine alfredo and pizza,” confided another source. “She’s gained 40 pounds.
“Penny has told pals, ‘I’m on borrowed time as it is, so I might as well enjoy myself. But a pulmonary specialist warns that smoking could affect the quality of her remaining days.
“Smoking after receiving a cancer diagnosis is never beneficial,” said Dr. Samuel Jacobson of Boca Raton, Fla. “If you have lung cancer, smoking can cause further breathing problems and respiratory distress, thus aggravating the condition.”

The woman is dying from lung cancer and her doctor is talking about cigarettes causing respiratory distress? I doubt if nicotine withdrawls would do her much good in her condition either. I don't blame her one bit for enjoying whatever gives her comfort since she is terminally ill. I would be eating and drinking everything that wasn't nailed down. Who cares if you look like Gilbert Grape's mom when you are decomposing in a box? She should have a lit cigarette in each hand and tell anyone who doesn't like it to kiss her ass!
I hope she eats, puffs and screws herself dry till the end of her days. The comments on smoking by the doc were silly to say the least.
Lol that's laverne?
Wow she's really let herself go. Another I need to add to my death pool
She's pretty much a sure thing on the death pool. The poor woman is ate up with cancer and a doctor is criticizing her for smoking. I'm impressed that she is still mobile.
True, but with lung cancer she is going to smother regardless.
I would do every drug imaginable (well, maybe) ... drink to excess... screw as much as possible... probably do whatever I enjoyed. Hell, if my life is ending, I'd end it the way I want.
My husband's stepmom died from lung cancer in 2004 and smoked until the bitter end. She had cancer in her lungs, brain, liver, colon, and cervix. This all recurred after going through radiation and chemotherapy that got rid of the cancer when she was first diagnosed. My father-in-law would get so upset with her for smoking and she finally told him "You were right here with me when the doctor gave me 3 to 6 months to live. He said there was nothing else that could be done for me. Why quit now?" She knew without a doubt she would die no matter what she did or didn't do at that point.
