Time for a John Hughes film festival this weekend. The 80's would not have been the same without him.

nooooo. Pretty In Pink is honestly one of my all-time favorites. not to mention, The Breakfast Club, Mr. Mom, etc.

and having lost my mother to a heart attack at age 52, this kind of death always hits home.

    Rest in Peace Mr. Hughes!

"She go to church, get mahlied!"

My husband and I say that to each other all the time when we are trying to make a point - MAHLIED!

He gave me Curly Sue and Weird Science. Both movies I was totally obsessed with and were big parts of my childhood.

You won't have to do that......I'm sure there will be a "John Hughes Memorial Movie Marathon" on at least ONE channel this weekend.

Hughes wrote for National Lampoon in the 70s, when I used to read it. His story Vacation '58 (which was funny as hell) eventually became National Lampoon's Vacation (which was also funny as hell). He also penned a couple of stories about genetalia that were damned funny as well. Gonna have to pull out the old Lampoons. Enjoyed most of his movies. Much too young...RIP

Next to Gilda Radner, this is by far the most devastating celebrity death for me.
John Hughes directed, wrote, and/or produced most of my favorite movies.

Way, way too soon for him.

Actually got to meet him back in '93. A really, really nice guy. He produced "Baby's Day Out" and was on-set the two days I filmed.

Really, really nice guy, talked to EVERYONE, crew, stars, extras, you name it.

RIP, Mr. Hughes. You truly were a great creative mind.

I concur with your words precisely! Since it is my birthday & I'm feeling sentimental, the words to a Simon & Garfunkel song come to mind.

    From "Bookends"

Time it was and what a time it was it was,
A time of innocence a time of confidences.

Long ago it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, theyre all thats left you.

RIP, thank you for your work.
